Glen Wyvis Distillery
Installation of Steam Biomass Boiler
In April 2016, the Glen Wyvis founders launched the biggest-ever community crowd-funding campaign in UK history. Following the detailed planning, design and costing phase, the construction of the Glen Wyvis Distillery commenced in January 2017.
Reason for Opting for Steam Biomass
The Founders of the project were clear from the outset that the Distillery should create benefit for the local community and local businesses and that the Distillery should operate entirely on renewable energy. The Distillery generates electricity on site by a wind turbine and solar PV, and the process heat is provided by a steam biomass boiler. With an expertise in renewable energy, R&I Cruden were appointed to oversee the installation of the steam biomass boiler.
The Solution
R&I Cruden provided a full design and build service for the project including heating, plumbing, and ventilation and, most importantly, the renewable technologies. After thoroughly researching the market, a Binder 550kW Steam Boiler chosen for installation by R&I Cruden. Throughout the project R&I Cruden worked in co-operation with Binder to ensure that all mechanical requirements were achieved.
The Result
With an annual biomass fuel cost is approximately £16,000 less than comparison to the cost of fueling an equivalent oil system. Furthermore, with annual RHI payments Glen Wyvis Distillery receive a 6-year payback on the total steam boiler project
